Students have been working very hard this year in preparation for the Sears Drama Festival, that is happening this Friday. This year the play " Believe Me " was written for the competition, by students Valerie and Jacklyn. The main theme and focus of the play is rape,
"A lot of research was made before writing the play " Jacklyn told us. She further explained how it was necessary, in order to get perspective and create characters. When writing this play both authors read through blogs and different statics. A great amount of effort was put in to make this play, authentic and real.
When asked about the importance about the topic at hand ( rape) Valerie said " It is something that is rarely talked about in society, but it still happens. The goal of our play is to spread awareness and spark a discussion". The topic of " Believe Me" is something people often avoiding talking about, which leaves victims feeling alone. This play will give a voice to a topic so rarely spoken of.
The cast and crew has two more days to polish and perfect their performance. Everyone involved always shows a postie attitude, and is feeling confident for the competition on Friday.
